'Traffic Police itself main hurdle on Multan roads'

Traffic Police itself is a main hurdle in traffic in Multan City. It is the duty of traffic police to keep the flow of traffic smooth but they erect barriers and stop the moving vehicles for checking and challans.
Experts say that the Worst and basic enigma of traffic mess in the city was due to 'zero' enforcement of traffic laws and lack of planned development, truthful and law abiding civic sense while 'imposed mega projects' would further aggravate the traffic situation. Mushroomed leasing industry and enormously rising registration of cars was termed major issue behind failure of present traffic system in the metropolis.
It was noted that during last five years traffic laws' enforcement has declined to almost zero as the city has spread and developed. It was deplored that driving license issuing and monitoring authority being same had promoted corruption in the city.
Gender discrimination, pollution, lack of up-gradation in public transport, failure of certain public private schemes in transport was discussed. Traffic capacity of existing streets could be increased up to five times by simple solutions, Experts said. They lauded contribution of private transporters and urged that their participation must be ensured in policy making.
Expressing concern over acquiring more loans in present debt affected economical situation, participants of the workshop said that before analysing, loops and holes of present traffic situation, consuming and enhancing the present capacity of available infrastructure, burdening citizens with more loans from international agencies and overloading the city with more traffic and infrastructure would lead Multan to chaos.
