Chief Census Commissioner, Karam Eallahi has said the fresh population census in Pakistan would be held in 2008. Addressing an inaugural ceremony of a workshop on `population census and gender equality,' last evening, Chief Census Commissioner highlighted significance of census.
He and said the availability of data relating to the population of a country was imperative for any real planning, good governance and for an effective administration.
He said the census provides basic data relating to the geographic, social and economic information of the people living in any country. So far five population censuses have been held in 1951, 1961, 1972, 1981 and 1998 in the country since its independence.
