The Punjab government has promulgated the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, 2007, and fixed Rs 200 as minimum fine for traffic violations and has increased the fine codes from 20 to 24.
The government has included four new codes of traffic violations, including use of cellphone, driving without seat belt, and wrong parking, said SSP Traffic Rawalpindi Sabir Ahmed, while talking to reporters here on Saturday.
He said that under code 1 overspeed the motorcycle would be fined Rs 200, private vehicle Rs 500 and public transport vehicle Rs 750. Code 2 overloading, the private vehicle would be fined Rs 500 while public vehicle Rs 1,000.
He said for violation of traffic signal Rs 200 fine would be imposed on motorcycle while Rs 500 on private vehicle and Rs 1,000 on public vehicle. The fine of Rs 500 would be imposed on loaders for overloading, he added.
For insufficient light, the motorcycle would be fined Rs 200, private vehicle Rs 500 and public transport vehicle Rs 750, while the same would be the rate of fine on violation of code 6 driving from wrong side, the SSP said, adding the fine on use of tinted glasses would be Rs 500.
He said for violation of stop line and zebra crossing, the motorcycle would be fined Rs 200, private vehicle Rs 300 and public vehicle Rs 500. For driving in prohibited area, motorcycle would be fined Rs 200, private vehicle Rs 300 and private vehicle Rs 750.
Sabir Ahmed said that vehicles causing hurdles in traffic would be fined Rs 200 (motorcycle), Rs 500 (private vehicle) and Rs 1000 (public vehicle). For driving carelessly or dangerously the vehicle would be charged with a fine of Rs 300 (motorcycle), Rs 500 (private vehicle) and Rs 1,000 (public vehicle), he added.
He said that on driving without license the fine for motorcycle would be Rs 300, Rs 500 for private vehicle and Rs 1,000 for public vehicle. He said that on use of pressure horn, fine for motorcycle is Rs 200, for private vehicle Rs 200 and for public vehicle Rs 750, while Rs 200, Rs 300 and Rs 750 would be charged as fine for smoke emission, motorcycle, private vehicle and public vehicle, respectively, he added.
He said that Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 would be charged for driving without registration for motorcycle, private vehicle and public vehicle, respectively. Under age drivers for motorcycle, private vehicle and public vehicle would be fined Rs 300, Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. On use of cellphone during driving Rs 200 was set fine for motorcycle while Rs 500 and Rs 1000 for private vehicle and public vehicle, respectively.
He said that duty officer was authorised to impose fine of at least Rs 200 on any violation not included in present 24 codes for motorcycle, Rs 300 for private vehicle and Rs 750 for public vehicle. The SSP Traffic called upon the people to cooperate with traffic police to make sure the complete end of the traffic violations in the city.
