ISLAMABAD: Around 9 million children were vaccinated against polio and more than 8 million against measles in Pakistan during last year 2010.
According to the report of United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) release here on Tuesday.
After deadly floods 2010, in Pakistan UNICEF coordinated humanitarian efforts in several areas including water, sanitation and hygiene nutrition, education and child protection.
UNICEF also joined with World Health Organization and World Food Programme on a strategy to make resources work harder by linking different life saving emergency responses to the children of flood hit areas.
In early measures involved providing safe drinking water to nearly 3.2 million people and sanitation facilities for about 1.5 million people which contributed to reducing the spread of waterborne diseases, report said.
UNICEF has also backed a network 44,000 lady health workers that has become the cornerstone of local health provision especially for women and girls.
Many women and girls might otherwise have limited or no access to health care owing to cultural reasons that restricted their movement, informed report.
