KARACHI: Legal proceedings at the city courts and the Malir District Courts were suspended on Tuesday as lawyers observed strike in protest against the killing of their colleague Waheed ur Rehman Qureshi.
The strike call was given by the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) and Malir District Bar Association (MDBA). Qureshi was shot dead here on last Monday evening by unknown gunmen.
The courts wore a deserted look as a small number of under trial prisoners were brought to the city courts lock-up, but they were sent back.
The stamp vendors, notary public and oath commissioners also closed their cabins and shops.
Meanwhile, speaking at a protest meeting, KBA President and General Secretary Muhammad Aqil and Haider Imam Rizvi strongly condemned the murder of Waheedur Rehman Advocate and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
They also demanded of the government to provide security to the lawyers.
