ICE canola trims losses, falls with US grains

 WINNIPEG: ICE Canada canola futures fell on Monday on spillover pressure from weaker US grains, but trimmed earlier losses.

* Further pressure seen from selling related to broker MF Global filing for bankruptcy. ICE Futures Canada said trades by MF customers were limited to liquidation.

* Nearby November canola registered a 0.1 percent loss in October, and touched its lowest price in more than three weeks before paring losses on tighter than expected supplies - trader.

* Thin total volume of less than 11,500 contracts.

* November canola futures fell $6.20 to $523.50 on volume of 441 contracts. Delivery period begins on Tuesday.

* Most-active January canola fell $1.30 at $529.50 on volume of 9,484 contracts.

* January-March spread traded a light 390 times, settling at a March premium of $8.90.

* Chicago January soybeans lost 8-3/4 US cents to US$12.17-1/4 per bushel, on pressure from a strong US dollar. December soyoil gave up 0.60 cent to 51.17 US cents per lb.

* MATIF February rapeseed shed 0.2 percent.

* The Canadian dollar was trading at $0.9952 or US$1.0048 at 1:17 p.m. CDT (1817 GMT), down from Friday's close at $0.9919 versus the greenback, or US$1.0082.

* US crude oil lost 0.1 percent at US$93.19 per barrel.
