ISLAMABAD: The Drug Pricing Committee (DPC) has fixed the prices of 235 newly registered drugs keeping in view the problems being faced by the general public with regard to availability of life saving drugs.
Cabinet Secretary chaired the meeting of the DPC.The Committee fixed the prices of 235 new registered drugs after discussion of each formulation.
The Committee considered availability of Thyroxin Tablets for thyroid gland problems and Digoxin Tablets, a cheap drug for heart patients and decided to re-fix their prices so that these remain available.
The Committee also considered cost factors of other medicines such as cough syrups, paracetamol etc and decided to re-fix their prices soon after evaluating market situation.
The Committee decided to fix prices of another 116 drugs in the next meeting. For the purpose, pricing section was advised to present more details for consideration of the Committee.
The Committee decided that parameters to fix prices of drugs need to be revisited in line with the new developments and hold a separate meeting in this regard.
Officials from all the four provinces of the respective health departments in addition to representative of Ministry of Finance and officials of Drug Control Administration, Cabinet Division and representatives of Pharma Industry attended the meeting.
