LHC seeks written reply from PHA on plea against banners

Published Updated

LAHORE: Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court on Thursday sought detailed written reply within two weeks from PHA on a petition seeking removal of banners of political parties.

The court was hearing the petition filed by Punjab Union of Journalists President Rana Azeem through his counsel Aftab Bajwa.

Earlier, the petitioner's counsel stated that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) had displayed countless banners on the Mall and city in connection with their political rallies.

The counsel said acting unlawfully the respondent parties did not even obtain prior permission from the PHA for affixing the hoarding and banners.

He stated that all the respondents had not even paid dues to the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) for installing banners on the roads.

He requested the court to pass direction to remove all hoardings and the banners from the Mall as it was done without permission from the PHA.

The counsel also prayed to the court for a direction to the PML (N) and PTI not to hold the rallies on the said date as the parties had failed to adhere to law.

However, a law officer on behalf of PHA told the court that charges/dues were applicable on commercial hoarding and sign boards whereas PHA did not charge on hoarding and sign boards displayed in public interest.

After hearing the arguments, the court ordered PHA to file written reply within two weeks.
