My 'time has come,' Misbah hints at retirement

imagePakistan Test cricket skipper has given indication that his time is up after his team suffered an embarrassing defeat against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday, giving the hosts an unassailable 2-0 lead over the visitors with one more game to go.

The 42-year-old, who is Pakistan most successful captain in its Test history, has been facing sharp criticism over his tactics employed in the second Test, which the team lost on Friday by a huge margin of an innings and 18 runs.

"The time has come for me to make a decision about the future," said Misbah ul Haq while addressing the media. "If I am not performing then I have no right to remain in the team," he added.

This is Pakistan fifth consecutive defeat, making it the joint most successive losses by the team. They had suffered 5 losses in a row in 1999-00 as well.

Misbah-ul-Haq further stated that he will need to 'think' about his participation in the third and final test against Australia in Sydney next week after questioning his recent contribution to the side.

"I haven't decided about that (Sydney) but let's see."

Misbah-ul-Haq was critical of his teams bowling, and opined that his team was unable to sustain the pressure, he also praised the Aussies batsmen.

"We could not bowl to any discipline, could not build any pressure. We lost all the momentum there. Full credit to the Australian batsmen. It's a funny game. Especially when you are under pressure. When you know there can only be a draw or a defeat, that can create a lots of problems, said Misbah in the post match presentation, reported ESPNcricinfo.
