Pakistan opening batsman Azhar Ali scaled new heights this morning (Wednesday) at one of crickets most celebrated venues the MCG, after he scored his double hundred against the Aussies.
Azhar Ali became the first Pakistani to score a double hundred on the Australian soil, after he surpassed Majid Khan previous record of the highest score by any Pakistani batsman of 158, by a considerable margin, as per stats provided by ESPNcricinfo.
Azhar also became the first Pakistani ever, to make more than one double-century in a calendar year. He previously scored a triple ton against the West Indies in October.
This was also the first Test double ton at the MCG since Ricky Ponting, some 13 years back.
Azhar score of 205 not out, was the second highest by any visiting player at the MCG. West Indian legend Viv Richards innings of 208, remains the highest score by any visiting player at MCG.
This was also the highest score by any visiting opening batsman surpassing Virender Sehwag's 195 in 2003-04. Overall, Azhar is only the third opener to make a double-ton at the venue, Justin Langer and Bill Lawry are the others.
Azhars knock has been celebrated by cricketing legends and experts alike as one of special at the Boxing Day.
