LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Tuesday forming a local commission to check the standard of milk and mineral water producing companies, sought a detailed report.
The two-member bench headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar passed the orders while hearing a suo motu at Supreme Court Lahore Registry.
During the hearing, the petitioner-counsel Barrister Zafar Ullah Khan submitted that PCSIR Laboratories's report had proved that chemicals were being used in packed and unpacked milk.
Director General Punjab Food Authority Noor ul Amin Mengal submitted that action was being taken against the companies involved in sale of sub standard milk and mineral water, as per law. He further submitted that the authority had sent 300 water and 30 milk samples to the laboratory for analysis.
However, the bench expressed reservations on the Food Authority's laboratory. The bench adjourning the matter sought a report of the samples sent for laboratory analysis on next hearing. The bench constituting a local commission to check standard of the milk and mineral water producing companies also sought a detailed report.
