The Boxing Day Test match has been a fascinating affair, as both Pakistan and Australia are leaving no stone untouched in the topsy-turvy contest.
Century-maker Azhar Ali was the key for Pakistan on the second day as he hit his 12th century of his Test career and first in Australia. Azhars performance was hailed by many with fellow paceman Wahab Riaz calling him the best batsman in Pakistan.
Azhar is showing himself as one of the best batsmen Pakistan had, Wahab told reporters after the second days play at the MCG, said Wahab Riaz, reported cricket.com.au.
Azhar, 31 remained not out on 139 at the end of second day in the rain marred match, he needs only 20 more runs to break the record for the highest score by a Pakistan batsman on Australian soil. At the moment Majid Khan who scored 158 in Melbourne in 1972, remains Pakistan top scorer.
Wahab further went on to praise Azhars consistency with the bat, particularly in Test cricket for Pakistan.
The way he has maintained an average of 46 in the last five years it shows he has scored consistently for Pakistan throughout his career, he added.
I wish that he scores more runs and Pakistan continue to benefit from him. He is very determined and focused and always wants to deliver for Pakistan. Thats why his hard work is paying off.
