imageISLAMABAD: Minister of State, Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon Monday said BISP was providing financial assistance to women for empowering them and reducing of poverty ratio from the country.

While talking to PTV she said, "The government has allocated hefty amount for BISP to provide relief to its 5.3 million beneficiaries as we were resolving issues of beneficiaries under the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif."

She said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had taken many steps for betterment of the women.

Marvi said BISP has started E-Commerce programme to promote traditional handicraft and festivals of handicrafts had been launched in Hunza,Thatta and would soon be held in Bahawalpur.

She said BISP was getting 90 percent aid from federal government and 10 percent from World Bank and other donors for its projects including Waseela-e-Taleem.

The provincial governments were also cooperating with BISP to provide succor to the beneficiaries across the country, she added.

She said that I personally visited all the districts including far flung areas to monitor relief activities of BISP.

Marvi Memon said that in previous tenure the BISP beneficiaries had drawn amount through Post Office, Smart Card and Debit Card but she termed it a unsuitable way as the women had faced several difficulties in the system. "We had introduced ATM card to get amount but most of women were uneducated and requesting others for cash withdrawal and some people are misusing their ATM cards."

The BISP chairperson said that BISP was launching biometrics system through National Identity Card (NIC) for cash withdrawal to facilitate the masses.

She said, "We were updating every information regarding BISP projects and programmes on website and would disburse SIMs among beneficiaries to inform them. The people can register their complaints on BISP hotline number 0800-26477."
