ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday accepted the plea bargain of former finance secretary of Balochistan Mushtaq Raisani who has offered to return Rs2 billion.
According to latest reports, Raisani, who was facing Rs40 billion corruption charges, has confessed to the charges after which his plea bargain was approved. He however will be suspended from his post.
Raisani was taken into custody on May 6 this year after a team of the National Accountability Bureau recovered sensitive documents and Rs603 million in cash during a raid at his residence.
According to NAB authorities, Raisani and contractor Sohail Majeed had submitted plea bargain applications which were approved during the conference of the executive board with NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry in the chair in Islamabad.
With the suspect caught keeping millions in illegal money and owning property obtained beyond his known sources of income, it appeared to be an open-and-shut case ending with his conviction until NABs decision on Wednesday, said a report published on Dawn.
