CTD officer shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: An anti-terror police officer was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on a motorbike in Peshawar on Saturday, police said.

Riaz Ul Islam was walking with his son to a mosque near his home when he was shot, Mohammad Sajjad Khan, a senior police official told AFP.

"Riaz Ul Islam was taken to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries before reaching there," Khan said, adding that Islam's son was wounded in the attack.

Islam was a deputy superintendent of police in the city's Counter Terrorism Department, Khan said.

Zulfiqar Ali Babakhel, spokesman for Peshawar's main Lady Reading Hospital, said doctors working to save the son's life.

No group has yet claimed responsiblity for the attack.
