LAHORE: A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the Cyber Crime law (Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2015).
The petition was filed by Zubair Niazi through his counsel Sheraz Zaka submitting that the act had been passed without prior approval of the cabinet which was mandatory as per recent judgement of the Apex Court.
He further submitted that the act was in violation of Article 19 A which guarantees right of freedom of expression.
He stated that the law gave unfettered and vast powers to government to block internet content and to prosecute anyone who wanted to freely express his political views.
He argued that under the garb of security and defense, the government could block any internet content, website or initiate prosecution against citizens. He pleaded the court to declare sections 10 ,19 and 32 of cyber crime law as unconstitutional.
