ISLAMABAD: The present democratic government will keep on pursuing policy of safeguarding the interests of journalists and workers affiliated with media industry.
This was stated by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan during a meeting with the delegation of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), led by its President Pervaiz Shaukat.
Welcoming the decision of Supreme Court on implementation of 7th Wage Board Award, the minister said this will remove hurdles in the implementation of the Wage Board Award, which was envisioned by the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership.
The minister said that economic well-being and independence of media go hand in hand and the government would take all possible steps for resolution of financial problems of the journalists and workers in the media industry.
She said that the government would play the role of a bridge between the newspaper employees and the proprietors for resolution of their differences.
The PFUJ delegation thanked the government for its cooperation on the issue of wage board award.They expressed the hope that the PPP leadership following the vision and policy of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto would play its role in early implementation of Wage Board Award.
