Pakistan and the Netherlands have agreed to enhance their defence co-operation, particularly in intelligence sharing, deployment of troops for crisis response missions and enhance co-ordination in Afghanistan for bringing stability there.
"Pakistan is a well known country in the world and it is important for the Netherlands to have good relations with Pakistan in all fields and enhance co-operation," the Netherlands Defence Minister Henk Kamp said, while talking to newsmen after a meeting with Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal here, on Tuesday.
He said during his meeting with the Pakistani counterpart both the sides sign an agreement to support deployment of Netherlands forces in Urdgan province of Afghanistan.
Kamp said that his country has appointed a permanent military representative in Islamabad to enhance defence co-operation. Relations between Pakistan and the Netherlands are very well and his country would do its best to make these ties even better, he added.
He said Pakistani soldiers are known as the best soldiers in the world and their participation in peacekeeping missions and crisis response operations is appreciable and very important.
He said his country is satisfied with the Pakistani co-operation in Afghanistan, peacekeeping missions and its participation in the CTF 150 Naval Operation in the Arabic Gulf, which is being led by the Netherlands and its command would be handed over to Pakistan by the end of this month.
He lauded Pakistan's role in war on terrorism and said it has provided us excellent support in this part. He said Nato and Pakistan forces are busy in fighting terrorists on both the sides of Pak-Afghan border and stressed upon the need to enhance their co-ordination and co-operation.
He appreciated Pakistan's co-operation with Nato in Afghanistan to curb the menace of terrorism.
Rao Sikandar Iqbal thanked the Netherlands for its financial and technical assistance to Pakistan in relief operations in the earthquake-hit areas.
