KARACHI: Faced with business dispute, a leading company chose to enforce mediation rather than `opting for litigation'.
An official of the Karachi Centre for Dispute Resolution (KCDR) said on Friday that a large scale manufacturer and one of its clients successfully resolved their case within 21 days through mediation at the KCDR.
It was pointed out that the Civil Suit No. 1175/2010 had been pending in the court for more than a year and was effectively disposed of after only three mediation sessions recently.
The KCDR official informed that a dispute occurred after a business transaction between the two parties, leading to the civil suit as well as numerous criminal cases being filed.
Both parties decided to mediate the dispute at KCDR as the case had been pending for more than a year.
The case was mediated by Dr. Zafar Sherwani, Director of KCDR and former Sindh High Court judge.
The KCDR, it was informed, was established in 2007 as a not-for-profit organization with the support of Sindh High Court and International Finance Corporation--World Bank Group.
KCDR offers mediation as an alternate form of resolving commercial disputes which offers time and financial savings while being a confidential and flexible process.
The KCDR also imparts training services for corporate and other professionals in mediation skills.
With more than 51 accredited mediators, KCDR has successfully resolved almost 1600 cases since its establishment.
