SYDNEY: Australian stocks maintained their recent momentum by gaining about 1.7 percent on Monday amid continuing optimism that the eurozone will soon announce a workable solution to its debt crisis.
At the close, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 was up 69.8 points at 4,275.4 on light volume, backed by strong leads from Wall Street on Friday.
The commodities-linked Australian dollar was trading at 103.10 US cents late in the session, up from 102.23 cents on Friday.
