ISLAMABAD: Writ of the federal government has once again been challenged pertaining to weekly two off days, as no decision in this regard has come to fore from the government of four federating units and, as such, the government and non-government offices seen opened.
The implementation of the decision is nowhere seen except in the federal capital, as on Saturday the governments of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) worked as usual.
It should be mentioned here that Punjab government defied the decision and all the government institution in the province remained open on Saturday. Sindh has not issued any notification to this effect as yet that is why people of province remained puzzled about going to their offices, as Karachi trading community has also rejected the federal government’s decision about weekly two off days, while Kesc also is of the opinion that this would not help ease load shedding anyway.
Meantime, the provincial government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa tied the matter with the decision by the council for national interest and all the government departments were working as per routine, whereas Balochistan government also did not decide to observe Saturday’s holiday.
The federal departments including Post Office, Election Commission and Passport office are closed in Karachi. Peshawar is also witnessing the same situation.
But, entire city of Islamabad is closed in compliance with the ruling by federal cabinet to conserve energy.
Following State Bank notification, all the private and government banks remained closed. In this backdrop, the traffic on the roads was seen less than normal.
On the other hand, prime minister has convened the meeting of Council of Common Interests (CCI) in order to take a permanent decision regarding two leaves in calendar week after consultation with provinces.
