Brazil agriculture minister to undergo surgery

ribeiroSAO PAULO: Brazilian Agriculture Minister Mendes Ribeiro will have surgery on Saturday to remove a small brain tumor diagnosed a month ago, the ministry said on Friday.

The minister was expected to leave the hospital in four days and resume activities in 10 days, the ministry statement said.

Ribeiro, a former congressman, took office in August after the previous agriculture minister, Wagner Rossi, resigned amid corruption allegations. It was one of several scandals in President Dilma Rousseff's administration that resulted in the departure of five ministers this year.
