KARACHI: The Executive Committee meeting of SITE Association of Industry has rejected the increase in water tariff of Rs 215 per thousand gallons by KWSB from current months.
The Association in its press statement said that the Executive Committee, after an exclusive meeting held here on Friday to review the increase in water tariff announced by KWSB carrying an increase of 82 percent in existing rates from Rs 119/- to Rs 215 per thousand gallons from October 2011 allowed by the Sindh Government for Industrial consumers, rejected the new rates and termed it as unjustified.
The meeting also observed that it would increase the cost of production and make the local products uncompetitive. The meeting was attended among others by M.Zubair Motiwala Chairman SBOI and Mohammad Irfan Moton, Chairman SITE Association of Industry and Arif Lakhani, Chairman of APTPMA (Sindh Balochistan Zone). Referring to the statement of MD, KW&SW MD in which he stated that the Board had not increased the water rates for last nine years, the meeting termed it as incorrect.
The meeting appealed to Sindh Governor Dr.Ishrat-ul-Ebad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to intervene and issue directives to KW&SB Authorities to withdraw increase in water tariff.
