Renowned human rights activist, lawyer and co-founder of Aurat Foundation, Shahla Zia advocate, 58, passed away on Thursday at Islamabad, said an Aurat Foundation press release issued here. She was said to be ill for sometime. She has left behind two daughters Aisha Bedar and Maliha Zia and a son Amel Zia to mourn her death.
Shahla Zia was eulogised for making great contribution for the cause of human rights especially women's legal rights. Her funeral was said to be held at her residence in Islamabad House No 75, Street F-10/124 at 4.30 pm. It was attended by a large number of people from different walks of life ie lawyers, parliamentarians, activists etc.
Shahla Zia was among the founder members of Women Action Forum (WAF). She had played an inevitable role in women's rights movements.
She was author of a number of books on women's legal rights issues.
