Pakistan Railway (PR) has completed a feasibility study for the revival of Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and asked the concerned quarters to allocate funds for the project.
The feasibility study has been completed and approved in co-ordination with the city district government and Sindh government. The federal government has also been requested for allocation of funds for KCR revival, said a statement issued here on Wednesday.
Karachi Circular Railway had been put off because of severe competition with the road transport during 1990s by allowing un-restricted routes to the road transporters running parallel and across the KCR.
Pakistan Railway has always been emphasising for setting up a mass transit system integrating Karachi Circular Railway as an essential corridor with the designated and well identified role of allowing its network by making it obligatory pick and drop point for the commuters travelling from and to road vehicles.
