imageKARACHI: The problem of excess billing especially during hot summer weather when loadshedding in many parts of the metropolis is also frequent, irks and torments Karachiites, electricity consumers maintain.

The Federal Ombudsman's Regional Office here has also pointed out that complaints against K-Electric are common and that this office is receiving applications most of which are against K-Electric.

Muhammad Yameen, Advisor to Federal Ombudsman has stated this while hearing applications of power users against overbilling of K-Electric.

He said that applications are daily being heard to help resolve the grievances of dozens of citizens.

The Advisor also cited a number of examples and said that remedial measures were initiated to provide relief in the case of overbilling.

Meanwhile, the consumers who have received excess electricity bills urged the authorities to direct the K Electric not to resort to overbilling as this is beyond the reach of many of the consumers who also complained of frequent power outage.

The K Electric also not keeping its promise of not to resort to loadshedding during the month of Ramzan.

The consumers have appealed to the authorities to direct the K Electric to revise the excess bills to the satisfaction of the consumers.

There are stances that the K Electric staff replace the electricity metres of the consumers and instead show the amount thus charge as `arrears' which is unfair.

In fact, they should inform the consumers in advance as to what would be the charges of the metre replacement.

The Consumers have also appealed to the authorities concerned that their metre readers should take precise reading so that there be no excess billing.
