Media, local community can help restore damaged infrastructure

ISLAMABAD: Federal minister for information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashique Awan has said that media and local community mobilization could reinstate and reconstruct the infrastucture damaged by by rains and floods in Sindh.

Talking to PTV she said that the rains and floods had played havoc with the province of Sindh."Majority of its people, property and agriculture have suffered heavily due to current monsoon rains," she said.

The Information Minister said that the newly established Information Cell would help share information through internet with other ministries."Rehabilitation of the rain victims is the biggest challenge for the government, which will continue its work till their resettlement," she added.

She said the losses caused by the unprecedented rainfalls and floods were beyond the expectation. However, the government was actively working to overcome the situation.

She said that with the help and cooperation of religious scholar and Chairperson of Bukhari Foundation Khanam Syeda Tayyaba Bukhari, more than 3.4 million items of urgent use and ration had been handed over to Mohtarama Faryal Talpur for the flood strikken people.

She said that the entire nation was united to help the rains and flood hit people of Sindh and vowed that the situation would be brought under control by providing maximum relief to the affected people.

Dr Firdous said that the magnitude of devastation casued bt the recent rains was not less than those of last year's floods and the 2005 earthquake that hit Kashmir and many northern parts of the country.

She said that millions of people had been rendered homeless and were living under the sky. They require the attention of friendly countries, the minister added.
