Record grain harvest expected in Kazakhstan
ASTANA: Kazakhstan is expected to reap a grain harvest of nearly 20 million tons this year, Executive Secretary of the Agriculture Ministry Yevgeniy Aman said Thursday.
"This year we have a very good crop. Perhaps this will be a record high harvest over the 20 years of independence and our export potential will go above 10 million tons," Aman told the forum on German-Kazakh Cooperation in Food and Agriculture.
He said the export potential would be accurately estimated only after the grain is reaped.
Kazakhstan has already harvested 16 million tons of grain so far this year.
The country's grain harvest reached 12.2 million tons in 2010. The record harvest was registered in 2009 with 22.7 million tons in bunker weight and 20.8 million tons after processing.
The Agriculture Ministry estimated the 2011 grain harvest to be around 18.9 million tons and export potential over 10 million tons.
