WASHINGTON: The US current account deficit narrowed in the second quarter this year as net surpluses in income and services surged, the Department of Commerce said Thursday.
The deficit, a measure of trade in the country's goods and services, fell to $118.0 billion in the three months to June from $119.6 billion the previous quarter, despite an $8.2 billion increase in the goods trade deficit for the period.
The surplus in income from investments abroad jumped $12.7 billion, while the surplus in services rose by $3.1 billion.
