 KARACHI: A five-member bench of the apex court has reserved judgement in suo motu case on law and order situation in Karachi.

The chief justice during Thursday's proceedings asked the Advocate General Sindh Abdul Fattah Malik as to what measures have been taken to handle issue of collection of hides of sacrificial animals.

He directed the Additional Inspector General Police (AIG) Sindh Saud Mirza to instruct all four Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) to ensure that there was no extortion in their respective areas.

The chief justice ordered, police should inform the court in writing about the progress in cases against criminals on daily basis.

It may be mentioned here that the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took suo motu notice on law and order situation in Karachi on August 22, 2011, and constituted five- member bench for hearing of the case.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ghulam Rabbani completed the hearing of the case here on Thursday.

The bench began hearing in Islamabad on August 26 and later at Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court from August 29.
