ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain Tuesday said the principles of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah are a source of guidance for all generations and urged upon the youth to follow them to better serve their country.
Addressing an event to mark the birth anniversary of the Quaid-e-Azam here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President said hard work and dedication were the Quaid's glowing principles.
About the distinguished aspects of the Quaid's personality, the President said political acumen, consistency and optimism turned this young man from old Karachi into an influential leader who not only changed the history and geography of Indian Sub-continent, but also gave rise to a new nation.
The President mentioned that with Quaid's motivation, the Muslims of sub-continent turned tables in the elections of 1946 and translated his vision of a separate homeland into a reality.
He said unlike his contemporaries, the Quaid-e-Azam never played with the sentiments of masses, which made him a popular leader even among the illiterate people from rural areas.
He advised the students to keep a keen eye on the national and international situation, however refrain from taking part in politics in pursuance of the Quaid's vision who always encouraged the youth to mainly focus on their education.
President Mamnoon expressed satisfaction that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on his suggestion had tasked the Ministry of Education to formulate a uniform academic syllabus in consultation with all the provinces.
State Minister for Education and Professional Training Balighur Rehman said the Quaid-e-Azam had termed achieving education a matter of life and death for the nation to survive in the comity of nations.
He said the government had taken a number of successful steps to improve the status of literacy in the country that included raise in literacy rate from 68 to 2 percent, reduction in number of out- of-school children and increase in primary pass students.
Chairman Higher Education Commission Professor Dr Mukhtar Ahmed announced activation of the Quaid Chair at Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad and setting up of new such Chairs in all provinces, for which he said the work would start in a year.
He said the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Award would be given every year to a university that would win the competition on the basis of performance, quality assurance, governance and social integration besides a support money of Rs 10 million.
Researcher Dr Safdar Mehmood highlighted that the Quaid laid great emphasis on rule of law, humanitarian equity regardless of religion, race or creed, and social justice.
President Aligarh Old Boys Association Javaid Anwar highlighted the dedication of the students of Aligarh Muslim University, which he said was also acknowledged by the Quaid-e-Azam.
Former President Aligarh Old Boys Association Brigadier (retd) Iqbal Shafi and researcher Khwaja Razi Haider also highlighted the principles of Quaid-e-Azam.
