LOS ANGELES: Former Major League Baseball pitcher Tommy Hanson died last month at age 29 from an overdose of cocaine and alcohol, according to autopsy results released on Friday.
Hanson died on November 9 at an Atlanta hospital a day after being found unrespeonsive. A coroner originally ruled the death as accidental.
But the autopsy report states Hanson's official cause of death was from "delayed complications of cocaine and alcohol toxicity".
Hanson, who was staying at a friend's house and had been drinking alcohol, was found by a woman and authorities were called. Hanson had slipped into a coma and suffered "catastrophic organ failure".
Hanson, a right-hander who last pitched in the major leagues in 2013 for the Los Angeles Angels after spending the prior four years with the Atlanta Braves. He was 49-35 with a 3.80 earned-run average in his five major league seasons.
