imageAccording to local media reports, Pakistani authorities have refused to issue a "renunciation of citizenship certificate" to former Pakistani turned Bollywood singer Adnan Sami, a move which can hurt his efforts to become an Indian citizen. The certificate is necessary for any Pakistani citizen who wants to adopt the citizenship of another country.

Officials dealing with his renunciation process said that the refusal came after the singer threw away his nationality documents. “Why would we issue the certificate to a man who has no respect for ‘sacred’ documents,” a senior officer of the interior ministry told the local media.

Adnan Sami also exposed a line from a letter that the singer had sent to the Pakistani High Commission in India along with his Pakistani passport, where he had stated that “I don’t need the green passport anymore. I have found my home in India”.

Khan who has been living in India for over a decade was granted leave to stay indefinitely after his Pakistani passport had expired and he hadn’t renewed it.
