China may end anti-dumping tax on EU potato
SHANGHAI: China's anti-dumping tax on potato starch imported from the European Union (EU) may expire in February next year, China's Ministry of Commerce said on Saturday.
The tax, imposed on Feb. 6 2007, is set to expire on Feb. 6 2012. But domestic producers of potato starch could request a review on ending the tax some 60 days before Feb. 6, the MOC said in a notice on its website.
The anti-dumping measure requires importers to pay a tax of 17 to 35 percent to Chinese customs.
EU-Chinese trade relations have been strained in recent weeks by a World Trade Organization ruling that gives China fresh power to challenge EU tariffs on goods Europe says are being dumped on its market.
A separate WTO ruling against Chinese export curbs on coveted raw materials is likely to be appealed by Beijing in coming weeks.
