Asma Jahangir condemns police attack on lawyers

ISLAMABAD: President Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jahangir on Saturday denounced the brutal attack of the police on lawyers in Jhang.

She deplored the attempt made by the DPO of Jhang for falsely involving lawyers in the murder of a policeman, which was soon exposed and filing cases against lawyers under the Anti-Terrorist Act.

According to reports she received from Jhang the police are still on a rampage to arrest and mistreat lawyers.

She also called upon the legal fraternity to ensure that protests carried out by them are peaceful and regrets that their protest against the malpractices of the DPO, through legitimate had erupted into use of violence.

She hoped that the legal community will follow the path of using its right of association in a peaceful manner but warned that acts of rowdiness do not warrant the police or the provincial government to act in a brutal, illegal and arbitrary manner and to use their power to take harsh collective against against the legal community.
