pepcoLAHORE: Pakistan Electric Power Company has added a total of 3,320 mega watts in the main power system over the last two years, said PEPCO General Manager Engineer Muhammad Khalid.

Briefing media at Wapda House here Monday, he said the Company was generating this quantum of electricity from the power plants of 225MW each from Atlas, Orient, Saif, Saphire, Liberty Tech, Habb-Narowal, Halmore and Engro, 200MW each from Nishat Power and Nishat Chuniya, Malakand-III 81MW, Attock Gen 163MW, Foundation Power Generation Project 175MW, Chashma Nuclear Power Plant-II 340MW, Gulf Rental Power 62MW, Karkey Ship-mounted Power Plant 232MW, Khankhuwar Hydro Power Project 72MW and restoring 55MW lost capacity by overhauling Guddu Power Station's units No. 6, 9 and 10.

To a question, he said, electricity demand and supply gap scaled up to 6,000MW last month mainly due to shortage of furnace oil at thermal power stations, however, now the situation has substantially improved with availability of furnace oil.

To another question, he said, PEPCO's installed power generation capacity is 20021MW and dependable capacity is 17653MW, adding, "We can generate up to 17400MW daily provided that 31,000 tonnes of oil and 702mmcft gas is provided to power stations."

Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has owed Rs 28 billion to PEPCO, he said, clarifying that KESC neither challenged the PEPCO's billing nor the arrears.
