TOKYO: Japan's industrial production rose 1.0 percent in April from the previous month, lower than the market forecast of 2.9 percent, official data showed Tuesday.

The rise in factory output came after the country, devastated by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, saw the sharpest drop on record of 15.5 percent last month.
