TRIPOLI: Three explosions were heard Sunday night as jets overflew Tripoli on Sunday night, witnesses said, after Libya accused NATO of trying to kill the country's embattled leader Moamer Qadhafi.
The explosions were in the eastern part of the city, the witnesses said.
Early on Sunday, government spokesman Mussa Ibrahim said that Seif al-Arab Qadhafi, one of the Libyan leader's sons, and three of his young grandchildren were killed in a NATO airstrike Saturday night, in what he termed an attempt to assassinate Moamer Qadhafi.
An international coalition began carrying out strikes on forces loyal to Qadhafi on March 19, under a United Nations Security Council mandate to protect civilians in the country.
NATO took command of operations over Libya on March 31.
