6.1-magnitude quake shakes Panama

PanamaWASHINGTON: A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 hit northern Panama early Saturday, the US government reported.

The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 3:19 am local time (0819 GMT), was located 179 kilometers (111 miles) south of the city of David, near the border with Costa Rica, according to the US Geological Survey.
