KANSAS CITY: Hard red winter wheat basis bids were steady to firmer on Tuesday as winter wheat crop conditions continued to deteriorate due to drought.
* In top producer Kansas, winter wheat was rated 44 percent poor to very poor by state agricultural officials in a report issued Monday afternoon.
* In Oklahoma, agricultural officials said weekend rains may have been too late to benefit the wheat crop as conditions there were "dismal and yield potential has been severely limited." Oklahoma wheat was rated 75 percent poor to very poor.
* Texas wheat was rated 72 percent poor to very poor.
* Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City jumped 10-25 cents a bushel for 11.40- through 12.80 percent protein wheat supplies amid active bidding.
* Track bids for May wheat delivery at the Gulf were posted at 70 cents over KCBT May futures.
* The Kansas City Board of Trade May wheat contract ended 28-1/4 cents higher at $9.60-3/4 on Monday.
