IMF mission to review Romania aid deal from April 27

Published Updated

IMFBUCHAREST: The International Monetary Fund will send a team to Bucharest from April 27 to May 9 to review Romania's new two-year aid deal, the Fund said on Friday.

Officials from the European Commission and World Bank, which also provide funds under the new deal, will also be present.

Romania, which has enforced painful and unpopular measures to shore up public finances and keep a previous 20 billion euro IMF-led aid package on track, agreed to a new deal in February, reassuring investors it is still committed to fiscal reform.

The new deal, which commits Romania to cutting its budget deficit to 4.4 percent of gross domestic product this year from 2010's 6.5 percent, has helped lift the leu currency and lower yields at debt tenders.

Under the new deal, the European Union state would only draw on the 5 billion euros of funding -- 3.6 billion from the IMF and 1.4 billion from the European Commission -- if needed.
