Industrialist wants greater access to Swiss market

Published Updated

industriesMULTAN: Noted industrialist Sheikh Ahsan Rasheed has stressed strengthening trade relationships between Pakistan and Switzerland and sought greater access to the Swiss market.

The chairman of Hafeez Ghee and Oil Mills, the manufacturer of Shama Ghee, said this at dinner he had hosted at his residence on late Monday night for Mr. Ajwat Arsalan Khan, commercial and trade officer of the Swiss embassy in Islamabad.

Ahsan Rasheed said that Pakistan's geographical location maked it the best place for investment for the launch of any industry or business.

He stressed joint ventures with international firms and application of modern technology for an economic turnaround in the country.

Pakistan needs greater market access to European countries including Switzerland for prosperity and self-reliance, he added.

Ajwat Arsalan Khan said the Swiss embassy in Islamabad and consulate general office in Karachi were playing due role for strengthening ties between the two countries in social, economic and education sectors.

He said the Swiss Business Council (SBC) had been engaged since 2008 in monitoring and promoting Pak-Switzerland trade ties. He said the SBC was also providing information and working to facilitate investors.

He said that the Swiss Asian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACC) with headquarters in Zurich had twelve Asian countries as its members and Pakistan was one of them.

The SACC is also playing its role in trade promotion between the two countries.

He said that another organization, OSEC, was active to facilitate and provide information to foreign investors.       He said that investors who wish to make investment in Switzerland or launch joint ventures in Pakistan could get better results by contacting OSEC.
