sharmila-farooqiISLAMABAD: Sectary Information PPP Women's Wing, Sharmila Farooqi said that tax system exists in the country but the need is to expedite the tax paying culture in the society and to make the people willing to pay it.

Sharmila while giving interview to a state run channel said that almost 18 million people comes under the taxnet in the country but unluckily only 21 or 22 lakh people pay taxes therefor the government gains only 7 or 8 percent because top industrialists and businessmen try to avaid taxes.

She added that only salaried class is bound to pay taxes and without proper focusing on collection of taxes, this system can not prevail. She added another important factor is RGST which government wanted to implement in all sectors but opposition is main hurdle to it.

She maintained on one side opposition says that government should not go to International Monetary Fund because the country is already debtor and on the other hand opposition does not want the RGST and cash the sensitivity of public on this issue.

She said all developed countries pay 50 to 60 percent taxes, while RGST was only 18 to 22 percent and the government even reduced it to 16 to 17 percent and trying to reduce it further.

She urged that nation should accept RGST because the country is already debtor and in this condition its not good to further borrow from IMF. She said that nothing can happen at once everything takes time. She added government is working on different critical issues in which most important are electricity and development of infrastructure.

She expressed hope that eventually the country will get enough electricity in future and will even export it to other countries.

She said that unluckily the last government done nothing for development in 10 years but the present government is trying to exploit 50 megawatt wind energy and for this purpose the commission has been established.

She said that people welfare is the top priority of this government one fine example is BISP through which 40 lakh families are getting benefit and this figure will reach to 70 lakh soon.

She said before the PPP government Pak-India were two arch nuclear rivals but now they are coming closer and border tension is also reducing which is a good sign.
