(Karachi) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has written a letter to the British government to extradite former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan, media reported on Tuesday.

The letter stated that Nawaz Sharif is a convict in corruption cases and he should be sent back to Pakistan.

The government further stated in the letter that the bail period of the ex-PM has expired and he should be extradited so he could complete his jail term. The document maintained that a legal process will be followed to bring PML-N leader back to the country.

The letter stated that Nawaz Sharif failed to present medical reports to the board formed by the Islamabad High Court.

The letter has been written on the request of Punjab government.

Earlier, the government decided not to extend the bail of Nawaz Sharif and declared him an absconder for violating the bail requirements.

The Punjab government had written several letters to the self-exiled former premier to submit his medical reports from any hospital in London but he failed to do so and only sent a medical certificate which was not accepted by the board.

The PML-N supremo has been convicted and disqualified in corruption cases. The IHC granted him eight weeks bail for treatment abroad. He left for London on November 19, 2019 with his brother Shehbaz Sharif and doctor.

Since then, the Sharif family did not produce valid medical reports related to his treatment raising concerns and suspicion.
