FIA to probe wheat crisis in Punjab

As problem of wheat shortage grips the country, an inquiry committee has been constituted to probe the wheat crisis in Punjab.
As per details, the team will be lead by Deputy Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The team will review the role of government representatives and determine the mafia responsible for the wheat crisis.
The investigative team will compile a report on the wheat crisis and submit it to the top officials.
Punjab ministers on Tuesday claimed that there is no wheat flour crisis in the province. Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan said that there is no shortage of wheat across the province, adding that due to negligence of Sindh government, people of Sindh province are facing the shortage of wheat and wheat flour.
Punjab Food Minister Samiullah Chaudhary said 482 sale points have been established across the Province for the provision of flour to people. He said that 20kg flour bag is available in market at 790 rupees. The provincial minister reiterated the government's resolve to defeat hoarders and profiteers.
Meanwhile, Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet decided in a meeting on Monday to allow import of 0.3 million tons of wheat to bring down its prices in the local market, subsequent to reported shortage of wheat that led to escalation of flour prices in the country.
