India wants to change Muslim majority in IoK to minority, FM says in letter to UN chief

• "Pakistan will continue to extend political, moral and diplomatic support to Kashmiri struggle," FO said.
• "India seeks to alter internationally recognized disputed state of IoK by revoking Article 370,"FM wrote in letter.
• Indian actions also contravene numerous bilateral commitments including Pakistan - India Joint Statement, UN chief told.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has addressed a letter to the United Nation Secretary General Chief Antonio Guterres and the president of the UN Security Council outlining Pakistan’s legal case on Kashmir issue.

The Foreign Office in statement said that the letter was given along with a detailed factsheet and comprehensive annexures, highlighting the illegal, unilateral, coercive Indian actions of August 5.

In the letter, the FM wrote that India’s actions which are ‘stark violation of the UNSCR’ seek to alter the internationally recognized disputed state of IoK.  The letter added that this was an attempt by India to change the demography of IoK, ‘in order to convert Muslims majority to a minority'.

The statement further said that the FM's letter in line with Prime Minister Imran Khan's commitment to Kashmir,is part of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to sensitize world to the plight of innocent Kashmiris. "Pakistan will continue to extend political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri struggle," the release added.

The letter further said that Indian actions also contravene the numerous bilateral commitments. The commitments include the Simla Agreement, Lahore Declaration (1999), Islamabad Declaration (2004), Joint Statement of the National Security Advisers & Foreign Secretaries of both countries (December 2015) and Pakistan - India Joint Statement (December 2015).

"The Foreign Minister’s letter, not only builds on Pakistan’s efforts to sensitize the international community about the continuing Indian atrocities in IOJ&K, but also presents Pakistan’s comprehensive position on the Jammu & Kashmir dispute, including the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, Bilateral agreements and relevant letters to the UN in a sequential manner, laying out the international law and Pakistan’s legal case on Jammu and Kashmir dispute," the FO statement read.
