Huawei confirms having backup operating system in case it’s cut off from Android

Huawei and the US are already going through tensions and incase the country cuts off Huawei from using Android or Windows operating system (OS), Huawei has a backup plan: its own OS.

In wake of growing tensions between Huawei and the US, Huawei has admitted that it has kept its very own OS for phones, tablets and computers to be used as a backup plan in case US cuts it off from Android or Windows, reported South China Morning Post.

At present, Android and Windows are still Huawei’s first choice, but the company is just preparing itself for the worst. “Huawei does have backup systems but only for use in extenuating circumstances. We don’t expect to use them, and to be honest, we don’t want to use them,” said a Huawei spokesperson told the publication. “We fully support our partners’ operating systems – we love using them and our customers love using them. Android and Windows will always remain our first choices.”

Huawei’s started building its own OS, which has been rumored for years, back in 2012 after the US banned Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE from using American products and services. The tensions have grown more since then with Huawei even suing the US government and the US warning that it might punish Germany if they worked with Huawei on its 5G networks, detailed Engadget.
