Sarfraz to remain captain till WC19: Mani
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Ehsan Mani has finally confirmed that skipper Sarfraz Ahmed would remain captain till the upcoming World Cup 2019.
“PCB has decided to book Sarfraz Ahmed as captain of the Pakistan cricket team till the World Cup,” said Mani while addressing to media, on Wednesday.
The PCB chief informed that the board is in talks with the Indian counterpart for the restoration of cricketing ties. “Change will come to PCB but it will take time, whereas, restructuring would take place in the organization,” said Mani.
Mani who is on a visit to Karachi, praised the city for producing great cricketing talents, terming the city the ‘nursery of Pakistan cricket.’
The chairman also confirmed that the final match of the upcoming fourth edition of Pakistan Super League 2019 will be held in Karachi. Last year’s final was also played at National Stadium Karachi, where Islamabad United defeated Peshawar Zalmi to win the title for the second time.
On Sunday, Ehsan Mani said that the decision to keep Sarfraz Ahmed as the captain of the team will be done after the recommendations of the cricket committee. The statement lead to a debate among cricketing circles, with many cricketers putting their weight behind Sarfraz.
However, Sarfraz while talking to local media maintained that it is PCBs prerogative to decide over who should captain the team or not in ODIs, while adding that he has been leading the side series by series.
However, the skipper stated that the statements regarding the uncertainty over captaincy do affect the dressing room.
