LAHORE: An accountability court on Tuesday ordered release of Punjab Power Development Company's (PPDC) former chief finance officer Ikram Naveed while giving a final approval to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for entering into a plea bargain worth Rs 499.21 million with him.

Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Azam passed the orders while accepting an application filed by the NAB authorities for final approval of plea bargain with the accused.

Earlier, the court was apprised that NAB chairman had approved the request of Ikram Naveed for a plea bargain. The accused had agreed to surrender properties of Rs 499.21 million for his release, a NAB prosecutor told the court.

He also told that Ikram Naveed admitted in his confessional statement that he gave an illegal monetary benefit worth Rs 132 million to Ali Imran, son-in-law of PML-N President Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

He submitted that the bureau did not have any objection on release of the accused.

At this, the court allowed the plea bargain and ordered for release of the accused.

The accused served in various authorities for different periods of time. The accused confessed to embezzling Rs 208.34 million in Earthquake Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA), Rs 233 million in PPDC and Rs 37.2 million in the PHA. The accused is stated to be the right-hand man of Ali Imran.

It is pertinent to mention that Ali Imran had gone abroad and an accountability court had declared him an absconder besides ordering for confiscating his properties.
