PESHAWAR: Chairman Peshawar Zalmi Javed Afridi Tuesday said that they have chalked out a comprehensive plan to ensure much need international standard infrastructure in shape of constructing 100 pitches across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This he said while briefing the media men during the closing ceremony of the Jashan-e-Azadi Zalmi Twenty20 Cricket Cup which involved 62 clubs across the province.

He said they are offering services for restoration of international cricket in KP and was ready to construct an international standard cricket stadium if the provincial government provided land for the purpose.

“We want to bring international cricket to KP where the youth had been suffered badly due to insurgency and militancy and through cricket we will be able to bring back the smile on the face of that traumatize youth,” Javed Afridi added.

“We have offered the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) KP and Prime Minister designate legendary Imran Khan to provide the land and the Peshawar Zalmi would provide capital for construction of an international cricket ground there. We are still willing and committed to construct the stadium if provided the required land,” Javed Afridi said.

He renewed the pledge while talking to reporters at the Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium here. Javed Afridi said that they wanted the land to be allotted on the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway in Swabi.

He said that they proposed the provision of land in the aforementioned area as it was easily accessible and comparatively safe for international players as compared to other parts of the province.

“There would be no security issue and would be easy to persuade international players to come and play there as the area situated at a short distance from Islamabad,” he added.

To a question, he said that the franchise was ready to extend all out support to the PCB in bringing international cricket back to the militancy-torn KP. Javed Afridi said that the Peshawar Zalmi was planned to hold a Madrassa and a Women Cricket League after the successful holding of such event in Dubai and regional cricket league in KP. He said that his franchise was utilizing all the resources on its disposal for promotion of cricket in the province and to find new talent.

“We are also providing stipends to talented and deserving youth to enable them to continue their education along with practicing cricket,” he added. He said that the Peshawar Zalmi had established 100 pitches of international standard in KP and tribal districts to provide the young players the opportunity to play on proper pitches and had carried a talent hunt initiative to find raw talent.

Javed Afridi said that the Peshawar Zalmi has started a ‘Career Path’ initiative where the former test spin bowler Saqlain Mushtaq, Zaheer Abbas and legendary test batsman Younus Khan were working with young and talented players to hone their skills and these talented players might get the opportunity to represent the Peshawar Zalmi in future editions of Pakistan Super League (PSL).

To a question, he said that Shahid Afridi was a cricket icon and joining the Karachi Kings was his own choice. “Our doors are open to him and we will welcome him in the team if he decided to return to the franchise. He is a national player and not belong to a single province or a group,” he added.

About the possible reshuffle in the PCB in the aftermath of the successes of PTI in the recently held general election, Javed Afridi said that the decision rested with the upcoming new government.

“The PCB Chairman Najam Sethi and his team has started the PSL and their efforts made possible the return of international cricket and players to the country which is indeed a great achievement and credit goes to the PCB chairman and his team,” he added.
